Dear Aunt Alice,
The Zambians have no coins in their currency, the kwacha. Instead, they have bills ranging from 50 kwacha to 50,000 kwacha (if there’s anything larger, I haven’t seen it yet). Roughly 5,000 kwacha make up $1 US. It’s rather tricky because I’m not used to thinking in thousands when it comes to money and it means that things sounds as though they cost far more than what they actually do. Saying, “It’s only 50,000 kwacha” just sounds WAY different than, “It’s only $10” and they mean the same thing.
So, if you really want to be a millionaire, buy a plane ticket and come to Zambia. All you need is about $200 and you can be a millionaire. =) However, you should know that you’ll probably spend your first million rather quickly as most prices are in the thousands.
